British Defence Standards
This Defence Standard (Def Stan) covers the construction, identification and testing requirements of a range of sub–miniature and small multi-core cables. The cables are designed to replace those in Def Stan 61-12 Parts 4 & 5 with constructions having a wider useful temperature range and enhanced fire hazard performance and is applicable to:
a) HM Surface Ships and Submarines;
b) Ship Systems and Equipment and Weapon Systems and Equipment.
Low Tension (LT) cores in the cable range may be operated at 600 V Root Mean Square (rms) at frequencies up to 1.6 kHz. High Tension (HT) cores are insulated with cross–linked flame retarded polyethylene and are suitable for operation at 2 kV rms at frequencies up to 1.6 kHz.
Current carrying capacities are not given owing to the varied conditions of loading and construction.
The recommended maximum conductor temperature for long-term use of these cables is 85°C.
The minimum temperature for installation and flexing of these cables in operation is -30°C.
