This NES specifies the minimum requirements for the approval of natural convection, fan-assisted and forced-air circulation fiirnaces used for the heat treatment of Nickel Aluminium Bronze (NAB)to NES 747 Parts 2 and 4. It may be applied to furnaces used for the heat treatment of other materials at the discretion of the Acceptance Authority.

This NES also specifies the requirements for furnace instrumentation and thermocouples and their calibration, and for furnace surveys and re-surveys.

The requirements for the approval of vacuum inert gas atmosphere or other such specialized furnaces are not covered by this NES.
