This Defence Standard (Def Stan.) specifies requirements for vapour barrier coatings and for proprietary flexible mastic sealers for use with thermal insulation materials in H.M. Surface Ships and Submarines, according to the procedures specified in Def Stan 02-703.

Requirements that are common to all types of vapour barrier and sealing products are described in the main part of the standard.

Requirements for fire, physical and thermal properties of specific types of the vapour barrier and sealing products traditionally used for the following applications, according to Def Stan 02-703, are described in the following annexes:

a) Annex A Specification for vapour barrier coatings.

b) Annex B Specification for proprietary flexible mastic sealers for use with thermal insulation systems with a maximum working temperature of 80°C.
