This Standard provides the procedures for the requalification of Submarine First Level castings made from Copper Nickel Chromium (CNC or CuNiCr) alloy manufactured to Def Stan 02-824 Part 1 (or its withdrawn predecessor NES 824) which have had service use involving contact with sea water.

Requalification in accordance with this Standard is to establish the acceptability of the casting for continued service with regard to localised corrosion and adequacy of wall thickness. It is additional to the normal inspections and tests applied to the Submarine First Level castings, e.g. surface dye penetrant examinations.

This Standard covers the policy for the recording and updating of CuNiCr castings fitted in submarines to meet the First Level Quality Assurance requirements in accordance with SSP 25.
