This Defence Standard 02-851 covers the requirements for two types of tufted construction carpet (Marine Twist and Coral Classic FR/RN) having a performance rating of non-domestic heavy contract as specified in BS EN 1307, purchased by or for the Ministry of Defence (MoD), and includes testing, certification and marking. 

Marine Twist and Coral Classic FR/RN are approved for use on HM Surface Ships in accommodation, recreation areas and designated offices only, excluding passageways, dining halls, working and Bridge areas. 

Coral Classic FR/RN is approved for use on HM Submarines in accommodation and recreation areas. 

Coral Classic FR/RN mats can be fitted in accesses from the upperdeck and outside certain internal compartments, e.g. the galley where moisture could cause a slipping hazard. 

Due to the high anti-static specification, Coral Classic FR/RN is the only carpet authorised for use in Bridge areas. 

These are the only carpets approved by M&GS IPT for use on HM Ships and Submarines and are to be contracted under the "supply and fit" arrangements in place with M&GS IPT.
