Conduit systems are installed in Surface Ships in order to provide protection to cables from environmental, mechanical damage or to provide EMC protection. This standard describes the minimum requirements for flexible, pliable, semi-rigid and rigid conduit systems for use on board surface ships for these purposes.

The intention of this standard is to facilitate the use of commercially available conduit systems as far as possible on new build and refit ships.

Although this standard applies primarily to surface ships, there is no specific exclusion of submarines. Applicability to submarines is dependent on whether the requirements listed herein meet the standards specified for particular submarine applications.

This standard is to be used in conjunction with BS EN 61386 and provides the additional requirements for conduit systems to be used on naval ships
