This Standard gives guidance for - and specifies the requirements for - the passivation, using trivalentchromium solutions, of electrodeposited zinc- and zinc-alloy coatings for the provision of enhanced corrosion resistance to steel components. The standard also details post-passivation supplementary treatments designed to yield a further boost to the corrosion resistance of the coating. Supplementary treatments whose function is to produce specific surface colours and/or torque-tension characteristics for fasteners, are alluded to but this standard is not intended to provide detailed specification for such purposes.
