This standard specifies the requirements for the Independent Inspection(s) of Safety Critical Items, Control Systems, first level items and personnel escape / survival systems, which shall be undertaken by a contractor and/or their subcontractors.

Independent Inspection(s) of first level items or equipment affecting safety systems relates to; nuclear steam raising plant controls, nuclear containment or the requirements for submarine / ship water tight integrity.

For Surface Ships: Independent Inspection(s) of systems and equipment shall be undertaken if the associated safety case / safety analysis identifies that such inspection is necessary to control associated safety risks; any such requirement is to be agreed by the Authority and communicated to the Contractor prior to installation.
