This standard specifies the minimum required shock attenuation performance of military aircrew helmets. This standard relates solely to the impact protection provided by two different helmet types: Type E for use in ejection seat aircraft, and Type S for use in static seat aircraft.

The scope of this standard includes the requirements and test methods for determining helmet shock attenuation. The requirements and methods for environmental conditioning prior to testing are also included.
