British Defence Standards
This Defence Standard is for the inspection of an isolated lot applies when the consumer:
requires just one lot;
is not prepared to make, or require the supplier to make, 100 % inspection;
requires a defined assurance that the quality of the lot he accepts meets his requirements and, since sampling methods are employed, the risks on sampling that will apply.
In order to meet the requirements a, b, c, the supplier may have to submit more than one lot.
A lot as defined in 4.2.1 is said to be isolated, when it consists of the stipulated quantity of items (units of product) required by the consumer, and is offered as a single lot to meet his order. It is irrelevant whether this lot is specially manufactured, specially modified from current production, taken from current production, or drawn from stock.
Optionally, this Defence Standard may also be used to evaluate a quality limit that can be associated with any particular accepted lot; this is the lower confidence limit (see Clause 4.2.8).
Part 0 of this Defence Standard provides guidance on the use of this part of the standard.
