This Part of the Standard specifies the quality assurance requirements to be applied to aspects of the armament systems for aircraft having a nuclear weapons carriage capability as follows:
(a) For nuclear weapon only capability: those electrical circuits and all associated sub-assemblies necessary for the carriage, monitoring, arming and release of the weapon including the Bomb Release Safety Lock (BRSL) and Aircraft Monitoring and Control (AMAC) sub-system;
NOTE: The AMAC sub-system is subject to additional testing to the requirements of Royal Aerospace Establishment (RAE) Specifications (WE342, WE1358, WE1673) or other superseding specifications.
(b) For mixed nuclear and conventional weapon carriage capability: those aircraft which have installations that serve a dual purpose dependent on aircraft weapon role. In such mixed weapon carriage capability installations, this Part of the Standard applies to the installation having a dual purpose and in addition to the content of (a) above, those electrical circuits and all associated components used with the carriage, presetting, monitoring, fuzing, arming, firing and jettison of the conventional weapons, guided weapons, and other non-nuclear stores using the same installation as used by the nuclear weapon system.
This Part of the Standard does not apply to standard or NATO/Service reference components such as connectors, resistors, transistors, integrated circuits, relays etc used within the aircraft armament installation, or to equipment or other aircraft systems which have a non-nuclear weapon system function excepting when made into sub-assemblies as defined in l.l(b) above.
