British Defence Standards
This Defence Standard covers the requirements for the in-service collection and analysis of Availability, Reliability and Maintainability (ARM) Trial data for Naval Systems. It lays down procedures to be observed in order to provide high standards of data collection and analysis with minimum disruption to the platform upon which the Trial is taking place.
This Def Stan also describes the interface and configuration management and control of data between the Trial Organisation, and the organisation requiring the ARM Trial.
Data collection is to be carried out during ARM Trials, officially invoked by the Trials Procedure, over an agreed time period, with interim assessment being made at suitable intervals, e.g. three or six months.
Analysis of collected data can be performed using a suite of computer programs, the Reliability Trials Database (RTD).
The results of the trial will be presented (as a comparison against requirements) following final analysis of all the operational data collected during the overall trial period.
This Def Stan does not cover data obtained from Reliability or Maintainability testing carried out at a manufacturer's premises or test establishment.
An example of a produced Trial Instruction and Trial Specification in accordance with this Def Stan can be found in Annex E.
