While open architecture and soft-skinned Land Vehicles will present the greatest risk to occupants in the event of a rollover, this Defence Standard applies to all Land Vehicles except:

a) Powered Cycles

b) Mopeds and Motorcycles

c) Tricycles

d) Quads, with the exception of heavy all-terrain side-by-side buggies

For armoured Land Vehicles, it is anticipated that the structural integrity elements of this Defence Standard will be met through the provision of an armour-protected volume around the occupants. While this may enable the structural integrity elements of this Defence Standard to be met without specific design actions, other elements will still apply (occupant restraint, secondary projectiles).

This Defence Standard focusses on the protection of seated vehicle occupants. Clause 12 provides guidance on measures that should be considered for the protection of occupants in a ‘head out’ position.
