British Defence Standards
This Defence Standard shall apply to all Land Vehicles. The definition for a Land Vehicle shall encompass all components and ancillary systems which form an integral part of the safe operation of the Land Vehicle.
This Defence Standard focuses on the protection of all personnel using the Land Vehicles as operator or crew. It aims to achieve this via generation of robust evidence base, including vibration data and contextual information, to enable vibration exposure assessments and adequate control of direct effects of hand-arm vibration (HAV) and whole-body vibration (WBV) on personnel in accordance with the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005 (CVAWR) and JSP 375 Volume 1 Chapter 26 Vibration at work.
The following are outside the scope of this Part:
a) Noise;
b) Vibration impacts and effects on the wider environment or members of the public, which should be managed in accordance with JSP 418 Management of Environmental Protection in Defence;
c) Effects of vibration on the personnel which are not explicitly covered by this Part, for example motion sickness, nuisance/ annoyance, other psychological effects, task concentration, performance and productivity;
d) Acoustic signatures and detectability of Land Vehicles, including any vulnerability related hazards that arise as a consequence of the vibration emissions. For further guidance on this issue, reference should be made to Def Stan 08-006 Part 2;
e) Effects of vibration and shock on mechanical and electrical systems and components, and munitions. For further guidance on this issue, reference should be made to Def Stan 00-035;
f) Vibration arising from incoming weapons;
g) Vibration arising from Land Vehicle accidents or fault conditions that are not representative of the Land Vehicle in a normal in-service state.
