This Part of the Standard describes the construction, identification and minimum testing requirements of fibre optic cables suitable for communications and data transfer applications within the enclosure of electronic or other equipment. They are suitable for sub-unit interconnection or as pigtails for active or passive optical components.

These fibre optic cables are also suitable for use as sub-elements of single or multifibre breakout ship's cables.

The sheathing of the fibres in this Part of the Standard presents a limited fire hazard and produces limited levels of toxic fumes, smoke and corrosive products when assessed by the methods of tests in this Part of the Standard.

These cables shall be suitable for continuous use within a temperature range of -30°C to +85°C.

The cables shall be suitable for use in fixed applications and shall have an installed bending radius of less than 1 O0 mm. Cables required for flexible applications shall additionally meet the requirements of Section Five of this Part of the Defence Standard.

Equipment cables shall be radiation hardened when specified by the project officer
