British Defence Standards
The test methods and requirements reflect the minimum properties which conductors, wires and cables shall meet for MOD use. The unique properties and construction of particular wire or cable shall be specified in the relevant Defence Standard Supplement.
This standard specifies requirements for airframe wires and cables in temperature categories 135 °C, 150 °C, 200 °C and 260 °C with medium and thin wall insulation. This insulation system has been tested for use in aerospace applications using 115 volts (phase to neutral), 400 Hertz AC and 28 volts DC. Verification of the suitability of this product for use in other electrical system configuration levels is the responsibility of the user.
Historic cables meeting the requirements of Defence Standard 61-012 Pt 33 have not been tested for compliance with Defence Standard 07-247 and are therefore prohibited from use in submarines and ships. Future design requirements shall give consideration to tests detailed in DS 07-247 and if those tests are not viable, then agreement shall be sought from Authority that they will not be completed. Agreement shall be provided in writing from the appropriate Authority.
