British Defence Standards
This Defence Standard specifies the construction, identification and testing of a range of jacketed multicore unscreened, individually screened or collectively screened cables for the local interconnection of mobile or fixed electrical and electronic equipment.
The LT cables in this Defence Standard differ from those specified i.n DEF STAN.61-12 (PART 5) by the following attributes:
A greater working temperature range. The conductor maximum operating temperature is 85°C and the cable may be deployed over the temperature range -30° to 85°C without damage to the insulation or jacket.
They are tested for resistance to the fluids listed in Table E of this Standard.
The cables are suitable for operation up to 500 V rms at frequencies up to 1.6 kHz.
Note: This Standard does not include cables having HT cores.
None of the cables listed in this Standard are to be used as power cables or for the direct connection of equipment to mains power supplies. The 3 core cables do not therefore have brown, blue and green/yellow cores.
Current carrying capacities for the cable are not given owing to the varied conditions of loading and construction. However, for guidance, where a single core of a multicore cable is loaded, the conductor current should not exceed 3 A.
