This part of the Standard in conjunction with Def Stan 61-12 (Part 0) specifies the minimum requirements for the qualification approval of ribbon cable in the temperature categories 125°C and 150°C which are suitable for operational voltages of 250 V rms or 600 V rms at 2000 Hz. This unique properties and construction of particular cable shall be specified in the relevant Defence Standard Detail Specification.

These cable shall be unshielded with standards tin plated or silver plated copper conductors or high strength copper alloy silver plated conductors, suitable for continuous use with a temperature range of -55°C to 150°C respectively.

The cable shall be of bonded, laminated, extruded or woven construction with 1.27 mm conductor spacing compatible with insulation displacement connectors (IDC), although termination shall not be restricted to the IDC type. The types of cable shall include limited fire hazard (LFH) variants.

The qualification approval procedures are defined in Def Stan 61-12 (Part 0) Generic Specification.

The materials used for cable construction will give a service life exceeding 40,000 hours at a continuous conductor temperature of 85°C.
