This Defence Standard specifies the requirements for the performance of a paint remover for use in the removal of the more resistant paint coatings such as polyurethanes from the metallic surfaces of aircraft and electronic equipment. The paint remover is intended for brush or spray application.
This paint remover does not contain any halogenated, chromate compounds or substances and shall be free from ammonia and any acid activating agents.
The paint remover is non-flammable.
The paint remover shall be of homogenous consistency suitable for application and paint removal on a vertical surface. The paint remover may contain agents to increase viscosity, confer miscibility with water, limit the rate of evaporation and suitable corrosion inhibitors. It shall not contain halogenated solvents, phenols, abrasive matter, or materials that are known to damage the environment.
