This Standard relates to a paint required as an exterior quality airdrying gloss paint f o r use undcr conditions involving marin'c atmospheric exposure, total immersion in sea water or fresh water, or a 'combination of these conditions. over anticorrosive paint (No, 655) t o DEF-1441 on steelwork, zinc chrome primer to DEF STAN 80-5 on suitably pretreated aluminium, aluminium primer to DEF-1418 on woodwork,and to suitably prepared polyester glass fibre laminate. It may also be applied as a single or double coat, as specified, to wood impregnated with water soluble fire retardant and preservative salts. It will normally be applied as a one coat finish

The paint is expected t o give full protection to steel under marine atmospheric conditions for a period of 12 months when applied over a primer or for 6 months as a single coat.
