British Defence Standards
This Defence Standard specifies the requirements for two types of shellac lacquer that may be clear or dyed. The lacquers are used in the manufacture of ammunition components, typical uses of the lacquers are as follows:
Lacquer, shellac, brushing: as a sealing and colour marking material for the cap annulus on small arms ammunition, powder cartridges etc.
Lacquer, shellac, dipping: as a colour marking material for coil springs e.g. for base fuzes
The designation Type QX?indicates that the material is suitable for certain applications where a high degree of compatibility with explosives is a requirement. However, compatibility with all explosives in ail environments has not been established and users should seek advice on particular applications through the responsible Technical and Supervising Authority named in the tender, contract or order. (See also 11.7)
Attention is drawn to the requirements of Def Stan 13-102.
