This standard specifies the requirements for static shielding bags for use in packaging electrostatic discharge sensitive (ESDS) devices. The bags provide protection by having an inner (intimate) contact layer that is both low charging and electrostatic dissipative, having a Faraday Cage shielding effect and being capable of dissipating electrostatic charges and provide a path to ground. The material of the bags shall be of a laminated construction comprising of polyethylene and metallized film. The overall construction may be of the "buried metal" or "metal-out" type.
All material properties shall be retained for a minimum period. This period is stipulated by Def Stan 81-41, for the chosen Military Packaging Level.
