British Defence Standards
This Defence Standard specifies requirements for four grades (A, B, C and D) of expanded polyethylene sheet for use as a resilient cushioning material in packaging.
The four grades are characterised by maximum permissible apparent density as shown in Table B. The material has a low water absorption and is therefore suitable for use outside a moisture vapour barrier.
The designation ‘Type GP' indicates the material is of a quality suitable for general packaging applications.
The designation ‘Type QX' indicates that the material may be suitable for applications where a high degree of compatibility with explosives is a requirement. However, compatibility with all explosives in all environments has not been established, and Design Authorities should seek advice on particular applications from the Head of Energetic Materials and Terminal Effects Department, Defence Evaluation and Research Agency, Fort Halstead, Sevenoaks, Kent, TN14 7BP.
