This Defence Standard specifies both the materials and the manufacturing requirements for five case Styles used for the packaging of Service equipment up to 150 kg mass.
For construction purposes it includes the use of timber, plywood, particleboard (oriented strand board, (OSB)), medium density fibreboard (MDF), and fibreboard.
It is a manufacturing standard only and contains no information on dimensional limitations or the use of the cases in package design, these are included in Def Stan 81-41 (Part 2).
It is pointed out that the suppliers of cases, that differs in construction from the specification described in this Defence Standard (including materials, fasteners, lifting aids etc), must ensure that the case has been tested as fit for the purpose intended.
