This Standard specifies the requirements for the preservation of mechanical power transmission assemblies for vehicles and gun control equipment (i.e., elevation and traverse gearboxes), and includes the following:

(a) gearboxes, mechanical

(b) gearboxes, reduction

(c) axles, driving (brake drum and disc type)

(d) axles, driving and steering (brake drum and disc type)

(e) bevel boxes for steering units

(f) transfer boxes

(g) final drives

(h) differentials

(i) power take-offs

(j) torque converters (gearbox types)

(k) vehicle-mounted winches

This Standard is not applicable to the following items unless specified by the relevant Services Packaging Instruction Sheet .(D Pkg A Form 0673a):

(a) assemblies which use a synthetic lubricating oil

(b) assemblies incorporating an automatic gearbox

(c) assemblies with hydraulically-operated gear selection
