This standard relates to polyester cored, cotton sheathed sewing threads used as components in ammunition and specifies the material, methods of test and other requirements.
The designation 'Type QX' indicates that the material is suitable for certain applications where a high degree of compatibility with explosives is a requirement. However, its compatibility with all explosives in all environments has not been established and designers should verify its suitability for particular applications. Designers should also consider the possibility that the explosive may have an adverse effect on the material, and seek advice on the particular application from Defence Packaging, Assurance Section on 0195989 Ext. 7218.
Attention is drawn to Defence Standard 13-102, Testing of Materials which are required to be Compatible with Explosives.
