This INTERIM Defence Standard specifies requirements for two types of cotton fabric impregnated and surface coated with sulfurless gunpowder. The primed fabric is used as a component of certain ignition systems.
The cotton fabrics used are: 'Cloth, plain weave, cotton, type QX, No 2' and Cloth, plain weave, cotton, type QX, No 3.
The designation 'Type QX' indicates that the material is of a quality suitable for application where a high degree of compatibility with explosives is a requirement. However its compatibility with all explosives in all environments has not been established and Design Authorities should seek advice on particular applications from Ministry of Defence, Directorate of Standardization, Kentigern House, 65 Brown street, Glasgow G2 8EX.
