This standard specifies the requirements for a HFC fire-resistant hydraulic fluid, primarily for use in shipboard hydraulic systems to reduce the risk of fire. The hydraulic systems of new ships will have been designed to use this fluid but prior approval of the Design Authority is required for use in existing Service equipment. OX- 40 is not compatible with materials such as mineral oils, oil-resistant paints, polyurethane, cork, or light metals e.g. cadmium, zinc and aluminium alloys.
