British Defence Standards
This Defence Standard specifies the requirements for a range of silicone fluids of different viscosities intended mainly for use as damping fluids, transducer fluids and dielectric fluids in radar and radio equipment, and in guided missiles. They can also be used as heat transfer fluids.
These fluids, particularly the lower viscosity grades, tend to cause certain rubbers and plastics to shrink and harden, and may promote stress-cracking in polyethylene, especially the high density type.
These fluids are not effective lubricants (steel against steel) at high loads.
