This Defence Standard specifies requirements for fibre reinforced polymer composite, in nominal thicknesses ranging from 7.00mm to 28.00mm, for ballistic protection purposes in military equipment. The laminates are suitable for fabrication during equipment build or refit.

NOTE: Where material outside the 7-28mm range is to be supplied then the customer and supplier shall agree an appropriate ballistic test criteria. 

This Defence Standard covers two grades of composite. The first grade is purely for ballistic protection. The second grade has, in addition to ballistic protection performance, minimum mechanical properties to allow it to be employed in load bearing applications. 

The material is deployed in safety critical applications where ballistic performance is a requirement. The manufacturer shall demonstrate compliance with the requirement before supplying to this standard.
