British Defence Standards
This Defence Standard specifies requirements for a closed cell cellular chloroprene rubber of minimum tarnishing quality available in various thicknesses for use as gaskets or as a cushioning material.
The material is primarily intended for use when it is necessary to minimise the possibility of tarnishing or surface corrosion of silver, copper and copper alloys (see Annex B) with which it may be in contact or in close proximity.
The material has superior heat resistance to and is recommended for use instead of material to Def Stan 93-57 Grade 1 Type MT when resistance to degradation under tropical storage conditions is an important consideration. It is suitable for service in the temperature range -10°C to 70°C.
The low temperature limit of -10°C applies for use as a cushioning material only. The material retains its flexibility at temperatures lower than -10°C, when lower rates of deformation are involved.
The material has appreciably higher resistance to mineral lubricating oils than cellular natural rubber.
