This Defence Standard specifies requirements for an open cell cellular rubber sheet available in various thicknesses for use as cushioning material.

NOTE 1: The material has high water retaining properties and is therefore unsuitable for use outside a water retaining barrier.

NOTE 2: The material is not resistant to mineral lubricating oils and petroleum fuels. If stored for long periods at temperatures below approximately 5 °C crystallization may occur giving rise to stiffening of the material. This effect is most rapid in the region of -25 °C. A sufficient increase in the storage temperature reverses this effect.   

NOTE 3: This Defence Standard has no requirement for fire retardancy and the material may burn readily.
