Introduction

Ministry of Defence policy is to secure competition in defence procurement whenever it is practicable and reasonable. This Code of Practice advises contractors of the Ministry's requirement for maximum effective competition to be obtained at all levels of sub-contracting and it provides guidance on the conduct of competition.

Except where the Ministry accepts otherwise, the Code applies to the placing of individual sub-contracts (at all tiers of sub-contracting) over £50,000 against MOD contracts valued at £1M or more. The use of competition in international collaborative projects will need to be agreed by the participating governments on a case by case basis.
