The materials covered by this specification are intended for the production of items, such as sheets, mouldings and certain extrusions for mainly mechanka 1 applications in contact with air over the temperature range -65°C to 230°C. They are not intended for liquid sealing or for application where low compression set is of prime importance. Occasional contamination by silicate ester and phosphate ester hydraulic fluids, di-ester oils and greases is not unduly detrimental provided the temperature is not excessive. Contact with fuels, light mineral oils, silicone liquids or greases derived from these should be avoided, They have excellent ozone resistance.
NOTE: Ar ordinary temperatures and in the absence of hostile environments, eg when properl-v stored, these rubbers deteriorate onlv very slowlv. For most practical purposes the effect is insignificant and the storage l$e of silicone rubbers ma-v be considered indefinite. However, the rate of deterioration increases markedlv with increased temperature and the sewice life of the rubber therefore depends upon the operational temperature. Converseli: the maximum temperature at which the rubber may be used depends upon the useful ive required.
