Introduction

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has carried out a major review of its conditions of contract and will progressively introduce a new set of DEFCONs (Defence Conditions) for use in new contracts in place of those formerly called up in GC/STORES/1 - Standard Conditions of Government Contracts for Stores Purchases (Edition April 1979) and many commonly used narrative conditions. The purpose of this review has been to introduce rationalised and clearer conditions for use in the Ministry's contracts. The development of the new conditions is also part of the Ministry's strategy to introduce contract drafting using new Information Technology on the ASPECT IT system. This Guideline provides information on new conditions and will be updated as further conditions are introduced and agreed with Industry.
