This standard presents the most current technology and industry practices for the use of plant-applied coal tar enamel (CTE) external pipe coating systems. It establishes minimum requirements to ensure propoer application and performance and includes methods for qualifying and controlling the quality of CTE systems, and the inspection and repair of these systems. Included is an appendix detailing the physical properties of these coating systems with several tables outlining the properties of CTE, primers for CTE, and reinforcing wraps. This standard is maintained by Task Group (TG) 298.
