Provides document architectures for the creation and interchange of books, articles, serial publications, and application-embedded mathematics. It provides a toolkit for publication developers to use as a basis for creating custom applications for authors, publishers, libraries, their users, and/or their database vendors. The standard specifies the SGML declaration defining the syntax used by the document type definitions (DTD) and document instances, and a definition for mathematics which may be embedded in other SGML applications. The DTDs included have been designed to be flexible enough to expand or limit markup depending on the use of the application. The DTDs presented conform to ISO 8879.
