Purpose. This ACMP establishes uniform requirements for contractor prepared CMPs. Such CMPs shall describe the organization and the procedures used to configuration manage the functional and physical characteristics of the Configuration Items (CIs) covered by the contract, their interfaces and configuration identification documents. These CIs may be Hardware CIs (HWCIs) or Computer Software CIs (CSCIs).

Applicability. This ACMP was developed specifically to provide PMs a vehicle by which they can contractually invoke CMP preparation requirements on contractors.

Application guidance. This ACMP describes one task, the preparation of a CMP. One CMP is normally prepared by the contractor for each contract. If appropriate, it may be subdivided into several interrelated CMPs devoted to specific parts of the system or to specific families of CIs.
