PURPOSE
This SRD defines a flat structure and simple datatypes for the metadata elements.
The structure and datatypes enable the NCS to implement the metadata elements as eCatalogue that can be exchanged using the Shapefile encoding. The fieldnames that do not exceed 10 characters in uppercase and the basic data types are defined according the dBase IV structure. The object-oriented structure of the UML as provided by ISO 19115 is not supported by this encoding. Also the hierarchical structure of the XML schema of this STANAG is not supported by to this encoding. Repeatable metadata elements are implemented within a single Shapefile field using a specific syntax; there are restrictions on the number of repetitions.
