The doctrine and tactics contained in MTP-01 cover all aspects of the command and control of maritime forces in peace and war. The publication provides the instructions and procedures required by a commander to issue orders to fulfi l his specifi ed responsibilities and to enable subordinates to understand and comply with these orders. It also gives details of specifi c duties associated with the execution of tactical tasks.
The scope of the individual volumes of MTP-01 is as follows:
a. Volume I—Contains the doctrine, tactics, instructions, and procedures related to the tactical employment of forces in specialized forms of warfare, and to the safe and eff ective manoeuvring of maritime units at sea. Volume I is divided into six parts:
(1) Part I—General—contains the principal mission, command, and force organization and readiness information required for the eff ective conduct of maritime operations.
(2) Part II—Communications/Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR)—contains doctrine, tactics, instructions, and procedures related to the eff ective conduct of weapon employment and force coordination.
(3) Part III—Above Water Warfare—contains doctrine, tactics, instructions, and procedures related to the eff ective conduct of anti-air warfare, antisurface warfare, and interaction with merchant shipping and safety of navigation management.
(4) Part IV—Underwater Warfare—contains doctrine, tactics, instructions, and procedures related to the eff ective conduct of antisubmarine warfare and naval mine warfare.
(5) Part V—Strike/Amphibious Warfare—contains doctrine, tactics, instructions, and procedures related to the eff ective conduct of strike warfare and amphibious operations.
(6) Part VI—Other—contains doctrine, tactics, instructions, and procedures related to the eff ective conduct of maritime logistics and replenishment at sea, chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN), force protection and unmanned systems.
b. Contains signals covering all instructions and procedures provided in Volume I.
