The aim of this agreement is to define the technical standards required to ensure the interoperability of land, air and maritime HF radio equipment operating in an automated mode by means of an automatic radio control system.

Purpose

(NU) This Annex describes functional characteristics and provides a technical overview of the communication protocols used in High Frequency (HF) radio networks that implement the NATO standard Automatic Radio Control System (ARCS). The performance characteristics are described in Annex B (for information only) and the technical specifications to ensure interoperability are detailed in Annex C.

(NU) This STANAG addresses NATO multiple application (MA) mode non-EPM requirements. The relationship of the technology specified here to other related technologies.

(NU) TDMA mode requirements are addressed in the NILE PMO document "Segment Specification for the HF Fixed Frequency Signal Processing Controller (HF FF SPC) of the LINK 22 System (NILE)," No. SCCI/SP/HFFFSPC/2.3 dated 26 June 1996. EPM requirements are addressed in STANAG 4444.
