The aim of this NATO standardization recommendation (STANREC) is to list recommended practices regarding:
Dependability, which is a key characteristic of all equipment and the collective term describing its continued and safe operation. The key factors that influence the dependability performance are reliability, maintainability, availability, testability, sustainability, and safety.
The imperative for highly dependable equipment is as urgent today as it has ever been. Modern Armed Forces cannot tolerate lack of mission success neither can they accommodate long and expensive logistic “tails” or “supply chains.
Dependability has a direct impact on mission success, sustainability and life cycle cost.
This document gives guidance to projects and in-service organisations on how to implement dependability activity to ensure that delivered equipment achieves its requirements and is sustainable.
