This specification covers finish classification, grade designation, pre-paint preparation, dry film properties, test methods, heat and corrosion resistance evaluation, quality requirements, source approval, designation on drawings, and shipping requirements.
Restricted Chemical Substances
All product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the MPAPS B-50 specification.
Paint Classification by Grade
High temperature resistant, non-metallic coatings (primers, paints, powder-coats) are to be designated by a Grade number that indicates the temperature at which performance to the requirements of this specification are expected. Five standard Grade designation- 1200F, 1000F, 800F, 600F and 400F are suggested.
APPLICATION
This specification applies to finish painted metallic components exposed to temperatures in excess of 150⁰C/300⁰F) up to and including worst-case exhaust aftertreatment regeneration conditions (650˚C/1200˚F). Specific examples include painted, fabricated steel stanchions, brackets and mount structures which may or may not be designed to carry exhaust gas, that act as support structures for exhaust pipes and aftertreatment devices, ferrous castings with cosmetic requirements that come into contact with exhaust pipes and/or aftertreatment components (excluding engine manifolds), and welds on aluminized steel and aluminized stainless exhaust pipes.
