This specification covers 2 classes of brazed joints, and the quality requirements for each. Brazing design guidance can be found in Appendix A.

APPLICATION

This specification applies to components and assemblies that are permanently joined by brazing. It does allow, using the Class B designation, for the use of braze welding as an alternative process. This specification should not be applied to aluminum brazed components or nickel brazed EGR coolers. Requirements for nickel brazed EGR coolers may be found in EMD 10478. There is currently no Navistar standard for aluminum brazing made using the controlled atmosphere brazing (CAB) process, however reference may be made to AWS C3.7 when required.
