GENERAL:
This standard covers requirements for carbon steel self-drilling tapping screws suitable for use in general engineering applications. The objective of this standard is to insure that carbon steel self-drilling tapping screws drill a hole and form or cut mating threads in material into which they are driven, without deforming their own thread and without breaking during assembly.
It is the intent that all types of self-drilling tapping screws will meet the mechanical and performance requirements specified in this standard with the only difference between types being in their dimensional characteristics.
