Restricted Chemical Substances
Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the CEMS B-50 specification.
APPLICATION
This specification covers bright decorative, corrosion resistant, electroplated coatings of copper, nickel, and chromium suitable for use on aluminum substrates, including superplastic formed (SPF) aluminum. These coatings are used in exterior applications exposed to severe service conditions including scratching, denting, and abrasion, such as bumpers and grilles. Two classes of plating are described in this specification:
Class 1 – Suitable for most applications
Class 2 – Thicker coating than Type 1, with more stringent corrosion requirements (such as for SPF bumpers)
Note: On drawings where no class is specified, either Class 1 mp chrome or conventional chrome is assumed.
