This specification establishes three resistance spot weld classifications and defines the quality requirements for each class. Specific requirements for spot weld nugget/button size, weld spacing, overlap, test and inspection criteria, and repair options for each class of spot weld are detailed in this specification. Engineering will determine the required weld classification and designate the appropriate class by using the weld symbol for that class on the engineering drawing. (see Figure 1)
