Metal fuel tanks consist of a center section with end-caps, fill-pipe, and flanges or spuds suitable for the installation of all fittings. The center section, end-caps, fill-pipe, and flanges are all suitably welded to provide a single unit for assembly or service. The plastic fuel tank consists of a plastic shell, fill-pipe, and flanges or spuds suitable for the installation of all fittings. The plastic shell, fill-pipe, flanges and inserts are all suitably molded to provide a single unit for assembly or service. This specification covers the material and performance requirements of aluminized steel, aluminum, and plastic fuel tanks, including requirements of the Process Verification Plan and Report, the manufacturing quality plan, quality control and source approval, supplier's compliance reports, painting, appearance criteria, and shipping and identification requirements.

Restricted Chemical Substances

Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the CEMS B-50 specification.

APPLICATION

This specification covers Engineering quality requirements for purchased fuel tanks used on Navistar trucks as assembled in Navistar plants, and to such components as may be provided for field service applications.
