This white paper provides recommendations to transfer switch manufacturers, specifiers, and users regarding software or firmware updates to be performed on transfer switch control equipment locally or remotely. Note that the transfer switch control equipment referenced in this paper may not be located integral to the transfer switch enclosure, such as when transfer switch control functionality is performed by the generator control. Although there are also cybersecurity concerns associated with any remote or networked connection, as described in NFPA 70-2023 (NEC Section 110.3(A)(8)), they are not addressed in this white paper.
