NFPA 1404: Standard for Fire Service Respiratory Protection Training contains minimum requirements for the training component of the Respiratory Protection Program found in NFPA 1500: Standard on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program. Areas addressed include safety procedures for those involved in fire suppression, rescue, and related activities in a toxic, contaminated, or oxygen-deficient atmosphere or environment.

The 2013 edition includes significant changes:

  • Added language concerning the July 2012 NFPA® safety alert bulletin concerning Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) facepiece lenses
  • An added requirement for Safety Officer to correlate with NFPA 1403: Standard on Live Fire Training Evolutions
  • Clarifications on SCBA training versus live fire training
